Youns visited us at the gallery this week and gladly accepted to answer some of our questions !
Hi, happy to see you Youns! We have many works from you here at the gallery, which themes or artists inspire you ?
Salut Youns, nous sommes très contents de te voir ! On a plusieurs oeuvres de tes oeuvres à la galerie, quels sont les thèmes ou les artistes qui t’inspirent le plus ?
Wow many things inspire me, but if I had to choose it would be mostly the street, as I grew up in this environment, for example seeing graffitis everywhere on buildings, highways, metros etc. My inspiration comes from all that I could see during my life.
Wow, les thèmes qui m’inspirent il y en a enormément, mais ce serait surtout la rue, le street art car j’ai grandi dans ça, des graffitis partout sur mes trajets, autoroutes, RER, l’inspiration me vient de tout ce que j’ai vu dans ma vie.
Moreover, we can see mcqueen in your artwork, it’s kind of an icon, among all your artworks what is your favorite and why?
On peut voir accrochée derrière toi ton oeuvre, McQueen, c’est une icône. Parmi tes différentes oeuvres, laquelle est ta préférée ?
My favorite one would be Daftpunk, I will show it to you later but it’s my favorite because it is very complex, with many layers, colors and different textures.
Je pense que mon oeuvre préféré c’est les Daft Punk. Je vous la montrerai mais c’est une oeuvre qui me plait énormément car elle est très complexe, avec plusieurs couches, plusieurs couleurs, du relief etc..

Yes, Daft punk is still an iconic character, and well talking about icon, you’ve been working for a few years now, what is the biggest challenge you had to face during your career?
Daft Punk on est encore dans les personnages icôniques, en parlant d’icone ca fait plusieurs années que tu travailles, c’était quoi ton plus grand challenge ?
Well that would be the first time I sold my work at an auction. It was for an association. It was challenging because putting up your work for auction in front of 600 persons was very stressful, and was a challenge because it showed an evolution in my career. Also, it was challenging because I didn’t know if my work would be well received. I could hear what people thought about my work too so it was interesting. All in all it went very well and I am very proud.
Le plus grand challenge je dirais c’est ma première vente aux enchères dans une association, car poser son oeuvre devant 600 personnes c’est un stress, un challenge mais aussi une sorte d’évolution, de son art et de savoir si on plait au public. Au final j’en suis très très fier
Something which characterize you among other artists is your interesting technique, could you tell us more about it ?
La chose qui te charactérise pas mal c’est ta technique, est ce que tu pourrais nous en parler ?
Well I developed it over time and through various trials, with the use of different machines. My technique is adding different layers of varnish, between 6 to 8 layers everytime, and that’s what gives it this beautiful shiny finish. It is a technique that surprised me when I first saw it on some advertisement back then, and by combining different machines and elements I was able to master this technique.
Oui, j’ai développé ça avec le temps et c’est surtout grâce à des machines que j’ai pu parfaire ma technique, en fait c’est des couches de vernis qui viennent se poser, il y a entre 6 à 8 couches à chaque fois, c’est ce qui donne ce côté brillant et relief. Cette technique m’avait interpellée quand je l’avais vu à l’époque sur une publicité, et en réunissant plusieurs machines et éléments j’ai pu développer ça.
Yes it’s a really beautiful finish! Concerning your future projects, could you tell us what they are?
C’est un très beau rendu. En parlant de tes oeuvres, tu as des projets pour l’avenir ?
I have been working on a really big project for a year now, something really dear to me, it will be a mixed art piece made with photographs, objects etc.. I am still developing it because I have been quite busy lately, but it should hopefully be released at the end of the year if the situation with the virus goes better until then.
J’ai un projet qui me tient à coeur depuis plus d’un an, quelque chose de complètement différent qui joue avec les photographies et les éléments, et je suis en train de la développer. C’est très long car je fais plusieurs test et la vie a fait que je n’ai pas pu avancer plus, mais ça devrait sortir à la fin de l’année si tout va mieux par rapport à la situation.
You also recently did a project with the Parisian hospitals, it was on the news, could you tell us about it?
Tu as aussi fait récemment un projet avec les hopitaux de Paris, peux-tu nous en parler ?
Yes! Well I was contacted along by a collaboration of other artists to work and create artworks for the Parisian hospitals to raise funds in this difficult time, and that’s why I participated in the auction that I talked about before. This work was greatly appreciated so I decided to print it again in an edition of 30 and offer them to hospitals so that they can hang it on the wall!
Oui ! J’ai été contacté par un groupement de plusieurs artistes pour créer des oeuvres pour les hopitaux et générer de l’argent pour les besoins. Il y a eu des ventes aux enchères et cette oeuvre a beaucoup plue, donc j’ai décidé de la réimprimer en poster sur 25 ou 30 exemplaires que je vais offrir aux hôpitaux.
